Privacy Policy

In short
Klonk collects no data about you. Your workouts, your history and your settings stay on your iPhone and your Apple Watch - and, if you are signed in to iCloud, in your own iCloud. The developer has access to none of it. There is no user account, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party SDKs.

What the app stores
Klonk stores what you enter yourself, in a database on the device:
- Exercises and workouts - your workout templates with exercises, number of sets, reps and weights, plus any exercises you create.
- History - every completed workout with its date, duration and the sets you ticked off. From this the app draws progress charts and the muscle map, all on the device.
- Settings - such as rest length, haptics and how weights are pre-filled.
Exercise images and descriptions ship with the app and are not downloaded.
iCloud sync
If you are signed in to iCloud on the device, Klonk keeps your data in sync between iPhone and Apple Watch. Workouts and history live in the private CloudKit database of your iCloud account, settings in iCloud key-value storage. Apple is the controller for that processing under the terms of your iCloud account, not the developer of Klonk; the developer has no access to your private database. See Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Without an iCloud account - or if you turn iCloud off for Klonk in iOS Settings - everything stays on the device in question. The watch then won’t see workouts from the iPhone.
Apple Health (Apple Watch only)
If you allow it, the watch app uses Apple Health during a workout:
- Read - heart rate and active calories, to show them during the workout and in the summary. The app does not store these values.
- Write - the workout itself, as strength training with its name, so it appears in the Health app and in your Activity rings. Klonk only keeps the identifier of that entry.
Health data is not used for advertising, not shared and not sent to the developer. You can change access at any time in the Health app on your iPhone: profile picture > Apps > Klonk. Without access, workouts work fully, just without heart rate and without an entry in Health. The iPhone app does not access Health.
Notifications
So you notice the end of a rest even with the screen locked, the app schedules local notifications on the device. No server sends notifications.
Backups
In settings you can back up all data to a file and restore it. The file goes wherever you put it - the Files app, iCloud Drive or your Mac, for example. Klonk doesn’t send it anywhere.
What doesn’t happen
- No sign-up, no account, no login.
- No analytics, no tracking, no third-party crash reporting.
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No sharing with third parties - there is nothing to share.
- No developer server: the app never contacts any internet address on its own.
If you write to us
If you email us, we process your email address and the content of your message in order to reply (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, legitimate interest in answering enquiries). Messages are deleted once they are dealt with and no statutory retention periods apply.
This website
This site sets no cookies and embeds no analytics tools and no fonts from third-party servers. It is hosted on GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit, GitHub processes technically necessary access data (IP address, time, requested file, browser identifier) to deliver the site and keep it secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Data may be transferred to the USA in the process; GitHub is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. We have no access to these logs. Details in GitHub’s privacy statement and the terms for GitHub Pages.
App Store metrics
Downloads, purchases and optional crash reports are collected by Apple as part of the App Store. The developer only sees aggregated, non-personal reports in App Store Connect.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21), as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77). Since we store no personal data about your use of the app, in practice these rights can only relate to correspondence by email.
You delete your data yourself: workouts and history in the app. If you delete the app, locally stored data goes with it; what is in iCloud stays in your iCloud account until you delete it in iOS Settings under iCloud > Manage Storage. Workouts written to Health are managed in the Health app.
Children
Klonk is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If the app changes, this policy will be updated. The date above shows the current version.
